Not the sexiest title but guess what? Not being full of shit is SEXY! - Pun intended. Having a successful bowel movement first thing in the morning is your gateway to clear, glowing skin. The lack of it causes skin congestion and acne, predominantly on the forehead area. Your bowel should always exit easily, and in tact. It should mimic the shape of a banana. Ideally, you should be going number two after every large meal.
I know within the first couple hours upon waking up if my digestive system is functioning correctly, or if it needs a helping hand. Growing up I had major intestinal issues. No ten year old should have hemeriods! It saddens me that my pediatrician listened to my issues and told me to take Metamucil (synthetic fiber) and stool softener, instead of monitoring my diet and telling me to stop eating Hot Cheetos everyday! After much research and experience, I can say with confidence that I am now an expert pooper :)
Here are some quick tips that have helped me...
Drink a liter of water first thing in the morning. This is extremely important to do since your organs have been at work all night. Drinking this amount of water on an empty stomach helps to purify the colon and flush out toxins. It also helps to hydrate the cells. Exactly what you need for healthy, glowing skin. A lot of people infuse a squeeze of lemon or a teaspoon of Apple Cider Vinegar into their water for the alkalizing benefits. I add a tablespoon of liquid Chlorophyll. Chlorophyll helps to gently detox the liver and acts as a natural body deodorizer. So when you are ready to do the Do; it won't smell.
EAT YOUR FRUITS & GREENS! I don't care if I sound like your mother. These healthy foods are filled with fiber which are crucial for a healthy digestive system. Plant based fiber stays intact traveling through your intestinal tract. This keeps your stool regular, in all aspects.
Here is my favorite Digestion Boosting Smoothie:
- Handful of cilantro (Great liver and heavy metal detoxifier)
- One banana
- Handful of pineapple chunks
- 1/2 teaspoon of chopped ginger
- Squeeze of a lemon wedge
- Fill with water and blend
Make sure you set aside time in your day to move your body. Try some form of physical activity for a minimum of thirty minutes. Do some yoga, go for a run or walk or hell- have some sex. I don't care what it is. Just get your blood circulation going while moving things along in your body. Also, make sure you are being mindful of your breath while working out. Holding your breath causes bloating. Take strong inhales in through your belly and exhale through your mouth.
Be extremely mindful of the types of food you are putting into your body. My diet consist of a lot of plant based foods and healthy fats because most of them digest within an hour. I'm not saying you need to adopt this lifestyle, but keep in mind that it takes 48 hours to digest most meats. A lot of us are lactose intolerant because as humans, we really shouldn't be eating dairy. I only eat meat and dairy when I absolutely crave them. But eating plant based foods makes me feel SO GOOD physically and emotionally that most of the time I don't want to compromise that just to satisfy my craving.
I recently completed a 3 week long parasite cleanse. Wtf is that right? Well parasites are micro organisms that develop overtime and live in our intestines. They enter our bodies through the foods we eat and the spreading of environmental germs. They can be the cause of many illnesses including chronic digestive issues. -Now back to my glorious cleanse. I wish I could explain in full detail what I saw but its very difficult. They weren't live bugs but it almost looked like the shell of a bug that has had the insides removed. MIND BLOWING. This didn't happen the entire three weeks for myself, but I have heard other people's fascinating, more extreme stories. I definitely felt like I released so much build up. I highly recommend doing this once a year. You can find the cleanse I used HERE. My girl Organic Olivia has also created her own cleanse that I will be trying next year :) You can find more info HERE.
